Board of Directors

The Board provides oversight and direction to the activities of Outlook Financial, and along with our parent company, Assiniboine Credit Union, operates effectively, ethically and transparently.

  • March 19 2019: The results of Outlook Financial's parent company, Assiniboine Credit Union's annual elections were announced at the Annual Meeting held March 18, 2019 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Members elected Marlene Lock, James Magnus-Johnston (incumbent), Priti Mehta-Shah, and Alain Molgat (incumbent) to fill the four three-year terms.

Crystal Laborero - Board Chair

Crystal is currently principal at Laborero Consulting and the former Director, Human Resources with Tribal Wi-Chi-Way-Win Capital Corporation. She has worked ten years with the Royal Bank, including opening the first on-reserve branch in Manitoba. Crystal was also the Founding CEO of Aski Financial and Director of Aboriginal Relations for the United Way of Winnipeg. She has worked with the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce and Business Council of Manitoba, and is the first Aboriginal woman in Manitoba history to be appointed Chair of the Manitoba Women's Advisory Council. Crystal has served on the ACU board since 2011 and is a member of the Governance & Ethics Committee and the Human Resources Policy & Compensation Committee.

 

Alain Molgat - Vice Chair

Alain is a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA,CMA) and President of Alain Molgat CMA Ltd. Prior to his retirement he was an Assurance Partner with MNP LLP and Hall Molgat, Public Accountants. Alain has worked for over 25 years with Manitoba First Nations' governments and their economic development enterprises in the roles of trusted advisor and audit engagement partner. Alain was a member of the legacy ACU board for seven years, where he sat on the Audit & Risk Management and Investment Committees. He is a past board member of the Public Utilities Board of Manitoba and has been an active volunteer with the CED sector. He is currently the Secretary-Treasurer of Community Ownership Solutions Inc. Alain has served on the ACU board since 2013, was Board Chair from 2017 to 2019, and is currently a member of the Human Resources Policy & Compensation Committee.

 

Dennis Anderson - Director

Dennis was President of Brandon University between 1990 and 2000, and has extensive experience as a management consultant and business educator. He holds a BSc, an MBA, and a PhD in business. He has served on a number of corporate and public sector Boards, including Centra Gas (Manitoba); the Governing Council of the National Research Council of Canada; Canadian Aboriginal Business Council (Manitoba Region); Brandon Chamber of Commerce; and the University of Swaziland; as well as several national, regional, and provincial Boards of University Presidents. Dennis has served on the ACU board since 2008 and is the Chair of the Nominating Committee and a member of the Audit & Risk Committee.

 

Kevin Freedman - Director

Kevin is an award winning leader, volunteer, and activist having been recognized by the YMCA and Governor General of Canada among others. He currently sits as a Trustee with the Winnipeg School Division, teaches at the University of Winnipeg, and is principal at Pathways Consulting. Kevin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Winnipeg and a Master's degree in NonProfit Management and Leadership. Among his many volunteer roles he is the President of the University of Winnipeg Alumni Association, President of MGEU Local 136, is a corporate and community speaker for Canadian Blood Services and Volunteer Manitoba, and is the founder of the Water Conservation Challenge. Kevin has served on the ACU board since 2014 and is the Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee and a member of the Governance & Ethics Committee.

 

Marina James - Director

Marina is currently the CEO of the Winnipeg Real Estate Board (WinnipegREALTORS) and serves on the Board of Directors of Manitoba Blue Cross, as well as being the Board Chair of Manitoba Hydro. She is the former CEO of Economic Development Winnipeg Inc., where she worked with a 34-partner committee to address issues that affect poverty reduction, infrastructure development, real estate development and sector growth in the Winnipeg Partnership on Economic Development. She also led an Indigenous Economic Development working group, and created the Healthy City Strategy for Winnipeg. Marina holds an MBA and is the past Chairperson of the Board of the Manitoba Hotel Association, Tourism Winnipeg, and the Manitoba Tourism Education Council. Marina has served on the ACU board since 2018 and is a member of the Audit & Risk Committee.

 

Paul Lacap - Director

For most of his marketing career, Paul has provided strategic and operational leadership within digital marketing agencies. Working at the intersection of marketing and technology, Paul has conceived and deployed hundreds of global marketing campaigns, loyalty platforms and digital platforms for consumer brands like PepsiCo., Disney, and Kimberly-Clark. In 2017, Paul took a departure from agency life and began leading a digital transformation as the Director, Digital Strategy & Engagement at the University of Manitoba. Paul has also actively participated as a thought leader on numerous industry councils and boards including The Canadian Marketing Association, The Brand Activation Association, The Association of National Advertisers, and Loyalty360. Paul holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba and a Masters Certificate in Project Management from York University. Paul is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP), PRINCE2 Practitioner and in Prosci Change Management. In addition to his professional career, Paul has volunteered with numerous committees and boards including United Way, Imagine Canada, University of Manitoba Business School Foundation, Red River College, Futurpreneur, CCEDNET, and the Manitoba Marathon Foundation. Paul has served on the ACU board since 2015 and is the Chair of the Human Resources Policy & Compensation Committee and a member of the Governance & Ethics Committee.

 

Anne Lindsey - Director

Anne is an experienced manager in the nonprofit sector, and was most recently, Executive Director of Local Investment Toward Employment (LITE), after leading the Manitoba Eco-Network for over twenty years. Anne has held a variety of Board positions, including Treasurer of Lord Roberts Community Centre and Co-Chair of Climate Change Connection, as well as sitting on the Manitoba Water Council and the Manitoba Round Table for Sustainable Development. She has a BA (Gold Medal) from the University of Winnipeg and a MA from the University of Calgary. Anne has served on the ACU Board since 2017 and is the Chair of the Governance & Ethics Committee and a member of the Human Resources Policy & Compensation Committee.

 

Marlene Lock - Director

Marlene has a B.Com. (Honours) and is a Chartered Professional Accountant. She has 30 years of experience in senior financial roles in small to large for profit and charitable community service organizations. She is currently VP Finance for a successful medium sized manufacturing company. She has also served as a consultant and business advisor in financial reporting, and mergers and acquisitions. Marlene has extensive experience in board governance as a board member, board chair, committee member, committee chair and treasurer. In addition, she has served as the staff liaison to boards and committees. Marlene is serving her first year on the ACU Board and is a member of the Audit & Risk Committee.

 

James Magnus-Johnston - Director

 

James is a co-owner of Fools & Horses Coffee, and the Director of the Centre for Resilience at Canadian Mennonite University -- where he also teaches economics and social entrepreneurship. James previously worked in the finance industry, in policy positions with lawmakers, and in the communications industry as an editor, writer, and translator. He has an MPhil in economics from Cambridge University and a BA from the University of Winnipeg. James volunteers with a variety of community-based and international organizations working on green economy initiatives, including Transition Winnipeg, the Green Action Centre, and the Centre for the Advancement of the Steady State Economy (CASSE). James has served on the ACU board since 2016 and is a member of the Nominating Committee.

 

 

Priti Mehta-Shah - Director

Priti is one of the founding partners of 49­-97 Capital Partners and provides corporate finance services in Winnipeg. She has provided corporate finance services in Winnipeg for the last 25 years and has assisted many Manitoba businesses with their transactions needs. Priti is on the boards of the Entrepreneurs Organization, Assiniboine Park Conservatory and the RBC Convention Center. Her board experience includes Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, where she was the Chair of Finance for two years and a member of the Investment Committee. She is also active with the United Way. Priti is serving her first year on the ACU Board and is a member of the Nominating Committee.
