Member Resolution
The ACU Board is recommending that ACU's by-laws be changed to eliminate grandfathered joint memberships and grandfathered joint associates (proposed By-Law No. 2017/01). Since April 2010 grandfathered joint memberships and grandfathered joint associates have not been offered to any new persons or organizations choosing to do business with ACU. Eliminating grandfathered joint memberships and grandfathered joint associates from the by-laws is the next step.
Currently only one person associated with a grandfathered joint membership can vote on matters of the credit union. Support of this resolution to change the by-laws will mean that each person associated with a joint membership will need to be a member of the credit union, with her or his own common share and will have the right to vote on matters of the credit union. This supports a more democratic process.
Assiniboine Credit Union will continue to offer joint accounts and joint loans. This proposed by-law change does not affect these offerings.
