Review your Designation of Beneficiary Regularly
It's a good idea to review your beneficiaries annually and be aware that your RRSP, RRIF or TFSA Designation of Beneficiary will not be revoked or changed automatically if your family status changes.
Should you wish to change your Designation of Beneficiary in the event of a relationship status change, you must do so by means of a new designation form.
Remember, if you are converting your RRSP into a RRIF, the two are considered separate plans so your named beneficiary will not carry over automatically. You must complete a new Designation of Beneficiary form for your RRIF, even if you are naming the same person.
